Almost a book illustrator!

Wow, I go away from WordPress for a week or two and everything’s been moved about. Never mind, achieving my dreams of becoming an actual children’s book illustrator might not be too far away. A few weeks ago I was approached by a small publishing company who’d seen some of my work on Facebook and they’ve asked me to come up with some designs for a book jacket (and maybe some internal illustrations) for a children’s book. So I’ve been sketching ideas out, created a very rough mock up of the jacket, sent it off to them… and they love it! They’re now currently checking the initial design with the author so fingers crossed she’ll love it too and the project will be good to go!

The above illustration is a character sheet for one of the main characters, I don’t want to give too much away at the moment!

Inktober challenge – in December

The Inktober challenge Facebook page has announced a new challenge for December – to do a drawing per day on a post-it note. To save the struggle of trying to think up a new picture every day, and as I am currently experimenting with unplanned expanding images, I’ve decided to use the 31 days to create a big picture. I started with the stairs in the top post-it note and since then it has been expanding to resemble one of Giovanni Piranesi’s prisons. True, I am two days behind already but it’ll be interesting to see what the final result will be.
